First Reading of FY 2013-2014 Budget
Columbia City Council will give first reading to the proposed FY 2013/2014 budget on Tuesday June 4, 2013 during the regular scheduled meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. In addition to first reading of the budget, City Council will give first reading to the proposed rate and fee increases for Parks & Recreation facility rentals and other recreation programs and first reading of the Hazardous Materials Cost Recovery and Registration ordinances.

City of Columbia to Co-Sponsor the Palmetto Concert Band Presentation: A Memorial Tribute
This Sunday, May 26th, is the 15th Annual Memorial Sunday concert by the Palmetto Concert Band. It will be held at the Koger Center for the Arts, located at 1051 Greene Street. The City of Columbia and USC want to treat the public to a family-friendly concert for which there is no admission charge.

City offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 in observance of Memorial Day.

2012 - 2013 EMERGENCY WINTER SHELTER

 

The City of Columbia’s Emergency Winter Shelter and Overflow Shelter are part of the City of Columbia Homeless Services and are coordinated in conjunction with Christ Central Ministries, Transitions and the University of South Carolina Supportive Housing Services.

 

The Emergency Winter Shelter provides beds, bathrooms, showers, case manage ment, support group meetings, and coffee to homeless individuals during the winter season.

To Reserve a Bed:             Individuals MUST call (855) 678- HELP (4357) to reserve a bed.  Name and gender must be provided. 

 

A reservation is required for transport to the Shelter from the pick-up location.  NO WALK-UPS ALLOWED.

2012- 2013 OVERFLOW SHELTER

Hours of Operation:           9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.

 

The Overflow Shelter will open ONLY if any of the following takes place:

  • Winter Shelter is at capacity; 
  • National Weather Service predicts temperatures of 36 degrees Fahrenheit or below; OR
  • Severe inclement weather is forecast, including snow, ice or heavy rain

 

NOTE:  Only clients who have checked in at the Emergency Winter Shelter will be admitted to the Overflow Shelter and they must be transported directly from the Emergency Winter Shelter.  NO WALK-UPS ALLOWED.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Midlands Area Consortium for the Homeless (MACH)

 

 

The Midlands Area Consortium for the Homeless (MACH) strives to end homelessness by making a difference in the lives of people who are experiencing homelessness.  The MACH, a 501c3 non-profit, was founded in 1994.  The MACH serves the counties of Aiken, Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Calhoun, Chester, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lancaster, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, and York. 

The MACH is comprised of over 60 agencies and is led by a Board of Directors.  The MACH addresses homelessness by promoting collaboration and planning among state and local governments, corporate and non-profit organizations, and faith-based entities that support individuals and families in their quest to move from homelessness to housing.

The MACH provides resources for information sharing and advocacy.  MACH member agencies provide a variety of services including: emergency, transitional, and permanent housing, supportive services, legal services, job training, transportation, medical and dental care, substance abuse and mental health programs, child care, and rent and utility assistance.

 

MACH meetings take place 4 times a year.
