First Reading of FY 2013-2014 Budget
Columbia City Council will give first reading to the proposed FY 2013/2014 budget on Tuesday June 4, 2013 during the regular scheduled meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. In addition to first reading of the budget, City Council will give first reading to the proposed rate and fee increases for Parks & Recreation facility rentals and other recreation programs and first reading of the Hazardous Materials Cost Recovery and Registration ordinances.

Applicants selected for employment will be required to take and to pass: Alcohol/Drug screening test and SLED background check; and a driver's license check will be conducted.

Temporary eligibility list - The city has some temporary part-time and full time positions available .Temporary employees are paid for hours worked at an established hourly rate - no city benefits. Once hired, temporary employees are eligible to apply for any vacant and posted city position and are considered as an internal applicant.

Effective January 3, 2012, the City of Columbia will be using E-Verify to verify the employment eligibility of all new employees.  E-Verify is mandated by the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996 (IIRIRA) and is operated by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) in partnership with the Social Security Administration (SSA).  E-Verify will be used in conjunction with the I-9  (Employment Eligibility Verification Form) and must only be used to verify new hires.  E-Verify must be initiated after the employee accepts the position and within three (3) days of the employee’s actual start date.  E-Verify will not be used to verify the employment eligibility of current employees.
