Each commute has several "pick-up" points at which bicyclists can join the commute as they pass in or near your neighborhoods.

Bicyclists have been invited to ride in the National Night Out "Kick-off Parade" on Monday evening, August 3. Parade will be staging in and near parking lot of Veteran's Memorial Park near the corner of Washington and Gadsden Streets between 6:30 and 6:50 pm. Parade will start at 7:00 pm. Short route of approximately 8 blocks and will end at Finlay Park. Lots of activities and goodies await attendees at Finlay Park. Please email bc@columbiasc.net if you would like to participate.

The annual “Swim Across the Dam for Drew” is set for Sept. 19. Please mark your calendars for this fine open water opportunity and community event. Please note this is the same day as the Mud Run.

TIME: Check in & late registration begins at 7:30, Pre-race meeting at 8:15 and Swim starts at 8:30
LOCATION: LakeMurray Boat Ramp on the Irmo side near Highways 6 and 60
ELIGIBILITY: Event is open to all USA-S age 11 and older registered athletes and to all USMS registered swimmers 19 years of age as of August 24, 2009. A photocopy of your USMS membership card must accompany your entry. One Event fees are available for athletes not registered with USMS or USA Swimming. Fee for 18 and under is $15 and 19 and older is $12.
FEES: $30.00 ($10.00 Entry Fee and $20.00 Foundation Contribution) includes cap, T-shirt and swimmer hospitality. Entry deadline is September 9th; entries received after that date require a $10.00 late fee and are not guaranteed a T-shirt. Late fee applies to day-of-event entries.
Where It's Happening - The Gazebo, Little Mountain, South Carolina. at the corner of Pomaria St. (SC Route 202) and Main St. (US 76) (Main St.) in the middle of the town. Directions from I-26: Get off I-26 at exit #85 and go south toward Little Mountain, SC on SC Highway 202 for 1.7 miles. Follow the directions for off street parking.
Ride Options- There will be a mass start for all rides at 8:00 AM. You have a choice of 11, 20, 40, 63, or, 100 mile rides. No matter which ride you choose, the Carolina Cyclers will provide you with great maps and sag support. In order to do the century ride, you must enter the upper loop by 11:30 AM .
Registration Notes - The registration fees are as follows: before 09/08/2009 $25 for members and $30.00 for Non-members; this early registration includes a t-shirt; after 09/08 $30.00 for members and $40.00 for Non-member. Register by 9/08/2008 to get a T-Shirt. If you are not already a member, the registration fee includes membership in the Carolina Cyclers. RiversBridge Ramble – Saturday, November 7, 2009 – Orangeburg, sc
November 21st, Saturday PeachTree Rock:This preserve located in
LexingtonCounty is home to the geographic wonder “peachtree rock” and the only waterfall in the sandhills or coastal plain. This is an easy 1.5 to 2 mile trail that will lead to the rock. Meet at the parking area of the preserve.
Directions: From
Columbia, take Highway 215 (aka SC Highway 302) south past the airport toward Edmund. Travel on SC 302 until SC 6 veers off to the left towards
Swansea. Follow SC 6 across the railroad overpass for 0.5 miles. Look for and follow signs off to the left to the
BethelUnitedMethodistChurch (2nd church sign). At the stop sign, turn right onto the dirt road and follow it briefly
until the turnoff on the left which is a parking area among pine trees. Before leaving the car, make sure it is locked and all valuables inside are hidden from view, as the lot is secluded and unguarded. Two nature trails - 1/2 mile orange trail and 1.5 mile blue trail - provide access through the preserve.

Sandhills Research & Education Center:Complete with trails, birds and butterfly gardens the center provides a wonderful place for family investigation, experimentation, and imaginative play. Chanda Cooper a botanist and wildlife specialist will help unlock the secret treasures of the education center. This is an easy hike and walk through the gardens and trails. Meet at the parking area of the Center.
Directions: I-20 East towards
Florence, to exit 80,
Clemson Road. Turn left onto
Clemson Rd. and travel approximately 2.5 miles. From the new overpass (still on
Clemson Rd.) travel approximately another 1/4 mile on Clemson Rd. and take your first right into the Clemson Institute for Economic and Community Development at Sandhill REC.
