The Mayor and the six members of City Council are elected to staggered four year terms. The mayor and two council members are elected at-large and four members are elected from districts. Elections are held in the Spring of even numbered years.

The Mayor and Council make policy and enact laws, rules and regulations in order to provide for future community and economic growth. Additionally, the Council provides the necessary support for the orderly and efficient operation of City services.

Council meetings are generally held at 10 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday of every month at Columbia City Hall , located at 1737 Main Street . For the first meeting in each quarter, Council meets at 5:30 p.m. out in the community.
