A life-long resident of
Columbia , E. W. Cromartie, II received his Bachelor of Arts in Marketing from
Michigan
State
University and his Juris Doctorate from
George
Washington
Law
Center graduating cum laude in 1971.
Cromartie was the first African-American elected to Columbia City
Council since Reconstruction. His professional affiliations include the
South Carolina Bar Association, American Bar Association, Richland
County Bar Association and the Columbia Lawyers Association. He was
appointed by the Honorable Governor Richard Riley to the State of South
Carolina Youth Services Board and awarded "The Order of the Palmetto,"
the highest award given by the Governor of the State of South Carolina
for outstanding service. Cromartie served as Past President of the
National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials and serve on the
National Committee for Transportation and Communication. He is also a
past member of the Midlands Technical College Education Foundation
Board of Trustees.
Attorney Cromartie is managing partner of Cromartie Law Firm, LLC. He
has been a practicing attorney for over thirty years. His firm
specializes in civil litigation, worker compensation, employment law,
business law, residential and commercial real estate transactions. He
was elected as the first African-American representing the state of
South Carolina as a member of the Board of Directors of the National
League of Cities, member of the Advisory Council of The National League
of Cities, member of the Board of Directors of the SC Municipal
Association and current President of the SC Conference of Black Local
Elected Officials. Councilman Cromartie is currently a member of the
Executive Board of Central Midlands Regional Planning Council and has
served as Chairman.
He worked diligently with community and neighborhood leaders to initiate development and construction of the 8.5 million dollar

Centerwhich is located in District II. He also joined neighborhood leaders in the celebration of the Edgewood-Read Street CICC's 20th
Anniversary which emphasized the revitalization of the community.
Councilman Cromartie is also focused on the revitalization and
development which is currently taking place along Harden Street.
Councilman Cromartie is a member of Bishops'
Memorial
AME
Church and Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He is also a 32nd
Degree Mason, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Prince Hall Chapter. He
and his wife, Raynette, have two children, Attorney Ernest Cromartie,
III and Antoinette Cromartie. |
