Sports & Recreation: Lake Murray
Lake Murray is certainly the jewel of Columbia. The lake contains 78 square miles of water and more than 500 miles of shoreline. At the time of its completion in 1930, the Lake Murray dam was the largest earthen dam used for hydroelectricity. At its widest point, the lake is 41 miles long and 14 miles wide, providing storage for 763 billion gallons of water

Today, Lake Murray is a magnet for boaters, campers, swimmers and fishermen from around the world. Whether you enjoy canoeing through calm waters, navigating your sails through cutting winds, leisurely cruising in your motor of fishing boat or camping under the stars, Lake Murray is the place for you.
