Accreditation
The communications accreditation process is a voluntary program specifically designed for Public Safety Communications Agencies.

Columbia-Richland 9-1-1 Communications was one of the first accredited communications center in South Carolina; initially assessed and awarded accreditation in 2003, by the Commission of Accreditation Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA).

Some of the benefits of accreditation are:

1. Better public services to citizens

2. Reduced liability

3. Increased accountability within the agency

4. CALEA based policy, protocols, and guidelines

5. Increased staff participation in the future direction of the agency

The Columbia-Richland Communications Center was re-accredited by CALEA in November 2006.

South Carolina Communications Center of the Year
The Columbia-Richland Communications Center was recognized by the S.C. Chapter of Associated Public Safety Official-International (APCO) and National Emergency Number Association (NENA) as the 9-1-1 Communications Center of the Year for 2002.
