Columbia-Richland Communications is the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) for both the City of Columbia and Richland County. Columbia-Richland Communications personnel receive, process, and dispatch both 9-1-1 emergency and 7-digit non-emergency calls for service.
Upon receiving a call for service, Columbia-Richland Communications personnel attempt to obtain accurate and timely information. Personnel utilize the “5” W’s information gathering process:
Where: Location or address of call
What: Nature or problem being reported
Who: The caller’s name
When: Is the incident in progress, just occurred or delayed
Weapons: Presence of weapons (if applicable)
