Columbia City Council will give first reading to the proposed FY 2013/2014 budget on Tuesday June 4, 2013 during the regular scheduled meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m.
In addition to first reading of the budget, City Council will give first reading to the proposed rate and fee increases for Parks & Recreation facility rentals and other recreation programs and first reading of the Hazardous Materials Cost Recovery and Registration ordinances.
This Sunday, May 26th, is the 15th Annual Memorial Sunday concert by the Palmetto Concert Band. It will be held at the Koger Center for the Arts, located at 1051 Greene Street. The City of Columbia and USC want to treat the public to a family-friendly concert for which there is no admission charge.

|Nature of Work|
|The purpose of this position is to perform a wide variety of duties in the realm of Community Safety in a community security program that will provide high visible patrol, residential and commercial property checks, crime prevention information and aggressive interaction with the community. Will provide high visibility community patrol efforts primarily on foot.|
|Graduation from high school, vocational school, or GED with two (2) years work experience dealing with the public, experience in the security field and/or some experience in law enforcement preferred. |
|Special Requirements: |
|Must possess and maintain a valid SC Class “D” Driver’s License and have an acceptable driving record. Must pass a thorough background investigation and be of good character and temperance in habits. Must have no prior criminal conviction(s). Excellent physical condition is necessary. The position requires extensive walking in all weather conditions and must have the ability to deal effectively with the public under all conditions. May be required to obtain technical or professional certifications as deemed necessary. |

|May be required to work twelve (12) hour fixed post or eight (8) hour predominately walking positions. Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, holidays and nights. |
