Park Ranger - Outdoor Programs

Meet at the Riverfront Park Visitor’s Center  Saturday Walks at 9 a.m.

Perhaps you always wanted to hike in the great outdoors, but have been hesitant to venture into the unfamiliar. Maybe you would like to learn the names of those beautiful birds you noticed, or you’re curious about that blooming plant with the unusual leaf. Our rangers are here to help you enjoy the great outdoors in good company. Use the Laurel Street park entrance at Huger Street

 

Family Learn to Fish Day: Monday, October 12 Fee: $5

Meet at Riverfront Park’s North End Parking Lot 9 a.m. and Noon

This is a great way for moms and dads to learn the basics of river fishing with their children.  Students in Richland One are off this day; make time for family fun together.  Park rangers will provide instruction, rods, reels and bait. Parent or adult over 18 years of age must accompany child. You must pre-register for this event; class sizes are limited. Contact kakustafik@columbiasc.net to register. Must be second grade or older.

 

Fall Into Tall Tales: Outdoor Story Hour for Families. 

Wednesdays in October at 7 p.m.

Brick Amphitheater Riverfront Park 

Children’s books are so much fun to share!  Join the rangers and guest readers as we read aloud from some of our favorite books for children and the young at heart.  Bring a blanket or cushion on chilly nights!  Use the Laurel Street park entrance at Huger Street.

 

Columbia Canal: Introduce Yourself to the Fall Line Sunday

October 25 Riverfront Park 1 p.m.-5 p.m.

The Fall Line Consortium, a group including Historic Columbia, The State Museum, Columbia Green and the City of Columbia will gather experts on the natural and cultural history surrounding the Columbia Canal for this educational afternoon in the park.  Join guided tours, hear lectures, watch kayaking demonstrations and admire the best river views around.  Use the Laurel Street park entrance at Huger Street

Make time during the hectic holiday season to experience our annual tradition marking the shortest day of the year with a fire, warm drinks and tales of times past.  Come prepared to toss mementos of last year’s unpleasantness into the flames, and resolve to enter the coming year renewed in spirit.
