Board of Zoning Adjustments and Appeals
Seeking one (1) Re-Appointment/Appointment.
The purpose of the Board is to hear applications for variances to the development standards of the Zoning Ordinance, for special exceptions, and for administrative appeals where a person claims that the Zoning Administrator has erred in the enforcement of the Zoning Ordinance.  In making a decision about an application, Board members apply criteria outlined within the Zoning Ordinance.  The Board does not act as a recommending body to City Council; instead appeals of decisions of the Board are heard in Circuit Court. Term - 3 years.
 
Central Midlands Council of Governments
Seeking one (1) Applicant for Re-Appointment/Appointment. Applicant must reside within the city limits.
The purpose of this Council is to prepare studies and make recommendations on matters affecting the public health, control, utilities, planning, development and such other matters as the common interest of the participating governments may dictate. Term – 3 years.
 
Citizens Advisory Committee for Community Development
Seeking one (1) Applicant for Appointment. Applicant must reside within the city limits. The purpose of this committee is to advise the mayor and council on the needs of neighborhoods, particularly those that are deteriorating or are made up of low and moderate income. Term – 2 years.
 
Columbia Housing Authority Commission
Seeking one (1) Applicant for Appointment. Applicant must reside within the city limits. The mission of the Columbia Housing Authority is “to meet the emerging affordable housing needs of low to moderate-income individuals and families in Columbia and Richland County while promoting self-reliance and improving their quality of life”. Term – 5 years.
 
Columbia Music Festival Association
Seeking one (1) Re-Appointment/Appointment. The purpose of the Columbia Music Festival Association is to educate, discover, develop, train, assist, and promote the musical and artistic talents of the area's citizens; to produce, present and promote the best in the performing arts through arts organizations and artists; to provide centralized management, administrative and production services and coordination for its member arts organizations and artists; to coordinate volunteer services for the member arts affiliate organizations; and serve as an arts council in support of its member affiliate organizations. Term – 4 years.
 
Columbia Tree and Appearance Commission
Seeking five (5) Applicants for Re-Appointment/Appointment. Four (4) Applicants are considered At-Large. One (1) Applicant is considered Architect/Engineer.
The purpose of this commission is to protect, enhance and promote the City of Columbia's natural resources and visual beauty. They oversee the development of a master plan for the beautification of the City of Columbia and its implementation. Term – 2 years.
 
Greater Columbia Community Relations Council
Seeking three (3) Applicants for Re-Appointment/Appointment. Applicant must reside within the city limits.
The purpose of this Council is to study and evaluate information concerning community relations issues within the community and to formulate and submit opinions and recommendations as to possible courses of action that appear in the best interest of the community as a whole. Term – 3 years.
 
Planning Commission
Seeking one (1) Re-Appointment/Appointment. Applicant must reside within the city limit.
The purpose of this board is to develop and maintain a continuing planning program which will benefit City of Columbia residents; to provide a mutual forum to identify, discuss, study and address local development issues and opportunities. The Commission  also  advises  City  Council  on  annexations,  zoning  changes  and  approves subdivision plats/large development plans. Term – 3 years.
 
Richland County Board of Assessment Appeals
Seeking one (1) Applicant.
The Board of Assessment Appeals purpose is to equalize the value of the real and personal property of Richland County and to hear all grievances and appeals from the valuation and assessments by the Assessor. Term – 3 years.
 
Transportation Penny Advisory Committee
Seeking one (1) Applicant. Applicant must reside within the city limits.
The mission of the Transportation Penny Advisory Committee will be to review, comment on, and provide recommendations on the Transportation Penny to Richland County Council. They will meet on a quarterly basis and may call special meetings as needed. Term – 5 years.
Deadline –Applications are due no later than May 31, 2017 at 5pm.
