Tires:
Residents can bring tires to Richland County, where up to 5 standard car or truck tires per resident will be accepted free of charge.

Used Motor Oil:
Residents have more than 20 locations available in the city for recycling used motor oil. One option is Richland Coutny Landfill; another is to take used motor oil to auto and tire service centers.

Electronics:

South Carolina law states residents may NOT discard a computer, monitor, printer or television in any waste stream that is to be disposed of in a solid waste landfill. Electronics are NOT accepted curbside, but can be taken to City of Columbia Public Works Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday
9:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 
Accepting: Computers, monitors, TVs, VCRs, DVD players, phones, cameras, stereo equipment and anything that plugs in.

Bulbs:
The City of Columbia accepts bulbs for recycling at the Public Works building. Many local hardware stores will accept CFLs for recycling as well. Even stringed lights are accepted here in Columbia.

Batteries:
All non-leaking batteries are accepted at the e-waste drop off at the City of Columbia Public Works building.

Clothes, Shoes, Books & Toys:
These are accepted at the City of Columbia Public Works building as well as Animal Services building.

Residential Recycling Drop Off:

If you are not currently recycling at the curbside, the same materials are accepted at the Vista Recycling Center.
NO SORTING REQUIRED- please review the list of accepted materials. There is no garbage collection at this site.

 


Vista drop off is located at Washington & Wayne Street. (Parking lot behind M Vista)


Miscellaneous:
Just because you don't see it listed, doesn't mean it can't be recycled. The City of Columbia is continuously adding to the list of what we recycle. Even if we can't accept it ourselves, our goal is to find opportunities for our citizens to properly dispose and recycle as many materials as possible. Visit the Waste Wizard to search for proper disposal instructions on those tricky items.
