Columbia Police Department Announces Job Opportunities and Incentives
Chief William “Skip” Holbrook launched a major Recruitment and Retention Initiative on Tuesday, December 9 that will allow the Columbia Police Department to hire qualified applicants for 45 (forty-five) vacant law enforcement officer positions. The Department’s Plan also includes a 7% (seven percent) pay increase and a host of incentives to help recruit and retain law enforcement personnel.

​City of Columbia To Hold Walk Bike Columbia Public Meeting
The public is invited to a public meeting on Thursday, January 22 at 6 p.m. to see the draft pedestrian and bicycle master plan, share thoughts on the recommendations, and talk one on-one with the planning team. This is an opportunity for citizens to give input on the plan recommendations before City leadership considers formally adopting the plan. The meeting will be held at the Canal Room located on the lower level of EdVenture Children’s Museum, 211 Gervais Street.
Spirit Communications Park Coming to Downtown Columbia
The City of Columbia and Columbia Professional Baseball, announced on Wednesday, December 3 that they have reached an agreement with Spirit Communications to name the new, state-of-the-art multi-use sports and entertainment venue at Columbia Common in downtown Columbia. The venue will be known as “Spirit Communications Park.”
Mayor Benjamin Announces New “Justice for All” Initiative
Columbia Mayor Steve Benjamin was joined by Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook, Members of Council and leaders from across the community on December 4 to announce his major new “Justice for All” public safety initiative.

The Dream Keeper Award recognizes exemplary displays of committed service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Winners will be announced at the City of Columbia’s annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration on Monday, January 19, 2015, at 4 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Jr. Park and Community Center, 2300 Greene Street.

Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive Underway
The City of Columbia, Richland School District One and the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Foundation have kicked off the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Honor the Dream Food Drive benefiting Harvest Hope Food Bank. The food drive ends January 2, 2015.

The City’s Community Development department will host public forums for citizen input in the Five Year Consolidated Plan for submission to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
