Join the City of Columbia by participating in an online survey to help identify the community’s desires, needs and concerns for the future of Finlay Park.
CDBG Notice of Funds Available (NOFA) and Request for Applications (RFA)
The City of Columbia invites applications from qualified entities to apply for funding annually through the Notice of Funds Available/Request for Application (NOFA/RFA) process. Agencies that provide activities that are consistent with locally developed Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program Priorities and to address the federal/local Consolidated Plan objectives are encouraged to apply. Funds are made available for activities in two categories; 1) Public Service/Neighborhood Improvement Grants and 2) Non-Public Service/Public Facilities/Infrastructure Improvement Grants.
Midlands Area Treasured Trees Program 2014 Accepting Nominations
Nominations are now being accepted for the Treasured Trees Program. The Treasured Trees Program seeks to document and preserve trees that have significant value to the greater community, and promote the awareness, benefit and value of trees to the community. Nominations are due by November 15, 2014.

The City Manager’s Spotlight provides details about what is happening in the City in an effort to stay connected with the community. The City Manager’s Spotlight on September 2014 reflects information about the Neighborhood Improvement Plan Kick Off, Zoning Sign Sweep, Finance Department Recognition, NLC Recognition of the City of Columbia, Transportation Grant and more.
The 2014 Domestic Violence Awareness Advocates’ Exchange
Councilwoman Tameika Isaac Devine, Chairperson for the City of Columbia’s Domestic Violence Task Force, hosted the third annual Domestic Violence Awareness Advocates’ Exchange on Wednesday, October 15, 2014. Representative Mia McLeod, House District 79, was the keynote speaker for the event and talked about the efforts that are still needed in South Carolina to remove the state from the ranking as the nation’s number two state for the volume of women who are killed by men due to domestic violence. Nearly 70 domestic violence survivors, advocates and supporters attended. Mayor Steve Benjamin and City Manager Teresa Wilson were also in attendance.
Registration Period Open for Coed Adult Volleyball League
The City of Columbia Parks & Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the 2014 Adult Volleyball League. Men and women ages 18 and older can participate in this coed volleyball league. The fee to participate is $150 per team. The last day to register is October 31. The Adult Volleyball League season begins Monday, November 10, 2014.
Parks & Recreation Department Announces Youth Winter Basketball Registration Period
The Youth Winter Basketball league for boys and girls ages 9 - 17 was designed to give all youth an opportunity to play in this citywide league. The fee to participate is $25 per person.
